OIS Joins FACE Consortium

HERNDON, VA - September 8, 2010 – Objective Interface Systems, Inc. (OIS), the worldwide leader of high-performance, real-time and embedded communications middleware solutions, today announced that it has joined the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) Consortium, managed by The Open Group, to provide a common airborne computing environment for the Navy and other military branches.

The FACE Consortium is an industry group consisting of government, product suppliers, and customers, tasked with developing open standards and architectures for a common operating environment that will allow a more dynamic extension of capabilities across avionics computer systems platforms. The lack of industry standards has made the process of adding new mission capabilities to aircraft systems very expensive and slow. The new standards are intended to ensure more robust and open avionics computer systems that are less expensive to implement, more secure and easier to upgrade.

OIS membership and participation in the FACE Consortium is a natural extension of the long-term investment OIS has made in safety- and security-critical technologies. OIS’s ORBexpress communication middleware software is used in a variety of avionics systems throughout the world and is the first communication middleware to be evaluated under the Common Criteria, the world’s most widely adopted security certification standard.

“OIS is delighted to join the FACE Consortium and participate in the development of next generation avionics architectures with these leading aerospace companies,” said Joe Jacob, senior vice president at OIS. “The deep technical and industry knowledge of the FACE Consortium participants will help create a dynamic, robust and interoperable next-generation avionics architecture.”

“It’s great to see the continued interest from companies such as OIS to join FACE and contribute to the development of open standards for aircraft computing systems,” said Dave Lounsbury, vice president of collaboration services at the Open Group. “By providing a forum for industry and government to collaborate on interoperable, open architectures and best practices, FACE aims to improve the security and safety of airborne systems for critical military operations. OIS has been an involved member of The Open Group for some time and we’re looking forward to OIS’ active contribution to the consortium.”
