| MIDS JTRS Program Chooses ORBexpress State-of-the-Art JTRS Radios for Naval Ships, Aircraft and Ground-Based Command Centers The Multifunction Information Distribution System (MIDS) Joint Tactical Radio Systems (JTRS) terminals is an advanced command, control, communications, and intelligence (C3I) system that provides high-capacity, jam-resistant digital communications of real-time tactical data and voice communication among U.S. and coalition forces on the ground, at sea and in the air. The MIDS JTRS terminals incorporate secure data, voice, TACAN (Tactical Air Navigation), and relative navigation functions into a small, affordable, and highly reliable unit. ViaSat, Inc. and Data Link Solutions L.L.C., jointly developed the MIDS JTRS terminal. In order to ensure the successful completion and deployment of these mission-critical radios, ViaSat and DLS selected ORBexpress to provide the critical communications infrastructure for the MIDS JTRS terminals. Designed to support functions such as integrated navigation, surveillance, identification, air control, weapons engagement coordination and force direction, the MIDS JTRS terminal increases capacity over the original MIDS-LVT single channel capability by providing four channels, including the legacy Link-16 and TACAN channel and three 2 MHz to 2 GHz programmable channels, without consuming additional space or weight. The MIDS JTRS terminals are also Type 1 certified from the National Security Agency (NSA) for certified single-channel Link-16 operations along with TACAN navigation on a dedicated channel. This NSA certification demonstrates the ability of the MIDS JTRS terminal, using ORBexpress, to satisfy the latest NSA security requirements for a software-defined radio designed to meet multi-channel, multi-security-level JTRS specifications. It also makes the MIDS JTRS terminal the first JTRS radio development program to achieve NSA type 1 certification under the NSA's updated Uniform Infosec Criteria (UIC) security requirements.
