Full JTRS Radio System Ported to Android™
with ORBexpress® Taking advantage of commercial small form factors, like Android™ handsets and tablets, is the next step in the evolution of Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) radios. Working with OIS, Communications Research Centre Canada (CRC) ported an entire JTRS-based radio application, including core framework and waveforms, to an Android handset. CRC successfully ported an AM waveform, an FM waveform and an APCO P25 waveform to the Android device. By using ORBexpress for Android, CRC accomplished the entire port of the complete radio system, including waveforms, in just one day, with zero source code modifications. Using ORBexpress enabled CRC to take full advantage of their previous investment in software-defined radio and reuse their unchanged code in a new hardware/software platform. One day. Zero code changes. The full radio system including framework and waveforms ran seamlessly while achieving long battery life on the ARM processor. CRC used the ORBexpress middleware abstraction for all interprocess communications to make moving their SCA-based radio system to new form factors and new operating systems fast and easy. | What They're Saying About OIS |
“ORBexpress has played a key role helping us reach our development milestones on the Soldier Radio Waveform and on the Soldier, Rifleman and SideHat radios. It was refreshing to work with a vendor who actually understood the challenges we faced in SDR and delivered working solutions each time. OIS exceeded our expectations with the quality and speed of their product deliveries. Their technical support gave us the right person to talk to whenever we needed it.” |
About Objective Interface Systems OIS is the leading global provider of middleware solutions for inter-process communication for disparate systems. OIS offers ultra-low latency, real-time connectivity software development tools for use in complex and demanding environments, such as aerospace, defense, automotive, telecommunications, financial, medical, robotics, industrial automation, and consumer electronics. The ORBexpress product family is the most widely deployed communications framework for distributed and heterogeneous systems where failure is not an option.
