OIS and Wind River Deliver High-Performance Solution for Distributed Linux Systems

ALAMEDA, CA and HERNDON, VA—November 12, 2007—Objective Interface Systems, Inc. (OIS), provider of the most widely used communications middleware for real-time and embedded systems, and Wind River Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: WIND), the global leader in Device Software Optimization (DSO), today announced an integrated solution for commercial-grade and real-time Linux applications in distributed environments.

Responding to customer demand for a Linux solution that meets real-time requirements and supports a robust communications infrastructure, ORBexpress® RT, OIS's high-performance CORBA product, now supports Wind River® Real-Time Core for Wind River Linux. ORBexpress RT also supports Wind River General Purpose Platform, Linux Edition, a run-time environment for developers who need Linux capabilities, but are not constrained by memory footprint or real-time requirements. This makes the joint OIS-Wind River solution especially attractive to developers of non-mission-critical military/aerospace applications with rigorous performance needs as well as telecommunications systems such as software defined radios (SDRs), network infrastructure, image processing and mobile handsets.

ORBexpress RT is a real-time Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) product. Software developers use ORBexpress RT to provide a complete communications infrastructure for embedded applications for which performance and footprint are essential. It promotes code portability across heterogeneous hardware environments, enabling reuse of the same software code across multiple generations of products. ORBexpress RT is widely adopted throughout the defense, telecom, data communications, transportation, avionics, medical devices, robotics, consumer electronics and process control markets.

"ORBexpress brings all the intrinsic benefits of CORBA—upgradeability, reliability and high performance—to Wind River's Linux platforms," said Joe Jacob, senior vice president of OIS. "Adding only minimal overhead, ORBexpress makes seamless communications easy among real-time and embedded devices in heterogeneous environments. ORBexpress simplifies development of multiple generations of products, both speeding development and saving money."

Mr. Jacob commented further: "ORBexpress developers can now use Wind River's Workbench development environment to build their choice of real-time or commercial-grade Linux applications. They also gain the added benefit of Wind River's world-class technical support for Linux-based embedded systems."

"Wind River Real-Time Core provides real-time operating system-like functionality on an embedded Linux platform," commented Chip Downing, Senior Industry Marketing Manager for Aerospace & Defense, Wind River. "This is extremely valuable to developers who are committed to using Linux, even when hard real-time performance is required. With single-digit microsecond response times, Wind River Real-Time Core can take full advantage of the extremely fast throughput and low latency of ORBexpress RT."

Mr. Downing commented further: "Whether it's an airplane's mission computer communicating with next-generation sonar buoys in the ocean or a facial recognition program conveying thousands of data points in real-time—Wind River's Linux solutions with ORBexpress enables fast, robust and portable communications across a wide range of embedded devices."
