Objective Interface's ORBexpress Supports Texas Instruments' DaVinci Processors
HERNDON, VA - December 11, 2006 - Objective Interface Systems, Inc. today announced that its ORBexpress® communications middleware family now supports Texas Instruments Incorporated’s (TI’s) DaVinci™ technology, including TI’s TMS320DM644x system-on-chips (SoCs). Embedded developers can now use the small-footprint ORBexpress middleware to easily leverage the performance benefits of TI’s DaVinci technology. ORBexpress enables code portability across both the TMS320C64x+™ DSP and ARM® cores of the DM644x devices, speeding development of a host of digital video processing applications—client-side video, security video surveillance, set-top boxes, video phones, automotive vision systems and more—for which DaVinci technology has been optimized.

“DaVinci technology is much more than a silicon platform,” said Greg Mar, worldwide SoC marketing manager, TI. “It encompasses optimized software, hardware and tools that allow TI developers to get products to market quickly. Objective Interface’s ORBexpress middleware provides developers with an additional option to easily take advantage of existing transports between the GPP and DSP cores of DM644x processors to enable intelligent allocation of resources in any video-intensive systems.”

“TI’s DaVinci processors set a new performance standard for video security, video telephony and other video processing applications,” said Joe Jacob, senior vice president at Objective Interface Systems. “ORBexpress significantly enhances the ease-of-development and performance of these applications. It provides the tools for simple and fluid distribution of logic and data throughout DM644x SoC-based systems, allowing the target processors—GPP and DSP—to operate at maximum efficiency.”

ORBexpress solves fundamental communications issues between DSPs and GPPs to:

  • give developers the tools for simple and fluid distribution of logic throughout the system by providing for the easy transfer of logic to any target processor type (GPP or DSP) to maximize processor efficiency; and
  • provide developers the tools for simple and fluid distribution of data throughout the system to provide common protocols between the GPP and DSP and external applications; and
  • enable a development team to leverage the benefits of location transparency to optimize the complete system.
About ORBexpress
ORBexpress is based on the Real-time Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) standard that enables real-time and embedded devices in heterogeneous environments to communicate seamlessly. ORBexpress fully supports the tool chain for TI’s DaVinci processors, including: TI’s Code Composer Studio™ Integrated Development Environment and DSP/BIOS™ real-time kernel. ORBexpress also fully supports third-party real-time operating systems, including Green Hills Software’s INTEGRITY and MontaVista Linux, on the ARM portion of the DM644x processors. Optimized for an extremely small footprint and high-throughput, ORBexpress gives developers the ability to easily maximize performance in each of the GPP and DSP portions of the processor, providing greater flexibility and portability of high-performance video processing and other applications. Thousands of customers worldwide have used the ORBexpress communications infrastructure to build more flexible, upgradeable and capable products.
