Objective Interface Introduces Advanced Automotive Middleware Solution

DETROIT, MI/SAE 2005 WORLD CONGRESS - April 12, 2005 - Objective Interface Systems, Inc., the leading provider of real-time, embedded and high-performance middleware communications solutions, today announced the availability of its advanced automotive communications products for Green Hills Software's Infotainment Reference Platform. Objective Interface's automotive communications products are used as the infrastructure of many land-, air-, and water-based vehicle communications systems. The Objective Interface products solve the needs of automotive designers to accelerate time-to-market, improve security and reduce design costs. They deliver real-time, high-performance and highly secure embedded applications for automotive systems.

The Objective Interface automotive communications products fully support Green Hills Software's Infotainment Reference Platform. This provides an automotive communications architecture that enables numerous embedded applications in the automobile to communicate via any type of wired or wireless protocol. This results in infotainment systems, such as hands-free mobile phones and audio/video streaming applications, which communicate correctly—regardless of the application software or hardware platforms on which they are based.

“Time-to-market is the mantra of every automotive manufacturer's engineering process. Our focus is slightly different. Our products are developed to accelerate time-to-correctness. Getting to market quickly is not enough. Getting correct products to market quickly is the real goal. Incorrect products erode market share and generate cost multipliers in the repair cycle, and they make final delivery testing unpredictable and nerve-racking,” said Bill Beckwith, CEO/CTO, Objective Interface Systems, Inc. “Our middleware communications products are designed with the primary goal of reducing the engineering effort to produce correctly working distributed systems. Our products are also well-known for their small-footprint and for adding virtually no additional latency to communications.”

Beckwith added, “The high-integrity features of Green Hills' Infotainment Reference Platform are nicely aligned with the goals of our products. Both companies have worked hard to integrate the technologies seamlessly for a robust combination of platform and communications technologies. The results are royalty-free out-of-the-box solutions that provide a secure and high-performance distributed environment.”

“Automotive infotainment and telematics applications are rapidly growing more complex in several ways. Audio, voice and data processing often require real-time communications among distributed applications. In the future, they will also support Internet connectivity in addition to other communications protocols. This complex web of automotive applications requires an underlying software platform that provides maximum security, reliability and real-time performance,” said Dan Mender, Director Business Development, Green Hills Software. “Green Hills Software's Infotainment Reference Platform—based on our field-proven INTEGRITY RTOS—combines with the Objective Interface automotive communications products to meet the most rigorous performance, safety and security requirements of next-generation automotive electronics.”

The Objective Interface Automotive Communications Products
The Objective Interface automotive communications products include: ORBexpress™ for distributing system logic; data-centric publish-subscribe products for distributing system data; and high-assurance communications security products. These products meet the most stringent demands of automotive designers: reducing development costs, improving time-to-market, increasing portability across new hardware platforms, facilitating transparent reconfiguration and recovery, and improving reliability and safety. Without royalties or run-times, Objective Interface solutions keep costs down. They are also highly portable, allowing designers to write one set of middleware code that easily ports to any hardware platform—ARM®, PowerPC®, x86 or other. Developers can change or upgrade hardware without having to substantially modify their software code. In addition, all Objective Interface automotive communications products allow portability across different communications electronics. This allows automotive systems developed with these products to easily migrate among transports such as TCP/IP, Controller Area Network (CAN), Local Interconnect Network (LIN), Byteflight (FT-DMA), Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST), Time-Triggered CAN (TT-CAN), FlexRay and IEEE 1394.

All Objective Interface products are designed and built from the ground up for high-reliability, real-time and embedded systems. Objective Interface communications technologies have been independently benchmarked many times as the smallest and fastest middleware on the market. Objective Interface products are the communications core of many mission-critical products and systems developed by America Online, Boeing, British Aerospace, CERN, Daimler-Benz, EADS, Ericsson, Eurocontrol, Hughes Network Systems, ITT, Kawasaki, Lawrence Livermore National Labs, Lucent, Nikon, Nortel, Raytheon, Rockwell-Collins, Saab, Samsung, Sandia, Sprint, TEAC, TRW and many others.
