Objective Interface Systems Expands Presence in Japan, Adding SoftService as Key Distributor

Japanese robotics, industrial automation OEMs can now buy OIS’s performance-leading CORBA solution from SoftService

TOKYO, Japan—September 16, 2008
—Objective Interface Systems, Inc. (OIS), the leading provider of communications middleware for high-performance and mission-critical embedded and real-time applications, today announced that it is significantly expanding its presence in Japan through a distribution agreement with SoftService Co., Ltd., one of Japan’s most successful embedded software providers. SoftService now offers OIS’s complete suite of ORBexpress® communications middleware solutions to Japanese software developers. ORBexpress is a small-footprint, high-performance Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) product that allows complex embedded systems to communicate easily and reliably.

Service, home, and industrial automation robotics systems are a few examples of embedded systems that require a high-performance, small-footprint distributed communications architecture that can quickly process massive amounts of visual, auditory and sensory programming and data. These systems often require secure and safe communications as well.

Working with some of the most complex systems, robotics and automation developers commonly use CORBA to speed development and enable communications among diverse systems. In addition to providing the highest possible throughput for robotics and automation systems, ORBexpress also offers the highest levels of safety and security in the industry. This is valuable for mission-critical applications such as next-generation robots—which operate independently and interact with each other—as well as for safety-critical applications such as automotive assembly line robots.

Through its distribution agreement with OIS, SoftService now provides sales as well as software service and support for ORBexpress.

“The OIS-SoftService agreement provides another established distribution and support channel for ORBexpress. This makes it even easier for Japanese developers to produce more robust and reliable products while saving time and money by using communications middleware that is trusted by many of the world’s most mission-critical systems. ORBexpress is used in applications such as nuclear fusion control systems, avionics and software defined radios,” said Joe Jacob, senior vice president of OIS. “We are extremely pleased to be working with SoftService and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship.”

“OIS has helped companies all over the world to simplify the development of distributed software applications—while maintaining the highest levels of performance,” said Akira Nomiyama, president of SoftService. “With ORBexpress, our customers can build scalable, efficient and robust embedded applications with a market-leading CORBA product. We are delighted to be working with OIS.”

About ORBexpress
ORBexpress is used wherever systems require an extremely fast, small-footprint communications infrastructure where failure is not an option. The ORBexpress family of products includes: ORBexpress RT, which meets and exceeds the Real-time CORBA standard and implements the CORBA/e profiles; ORBexpress DSP, which enables Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) to become first-class devices in mixed systems; and ORBexpress FPGA, a lightweight hardware implementation of CORBA targeted for field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).

Thousands of customers worldwide have used the ORBexpress communications infrastructure to build more flexible, upgradeable and capable products. ORBexpress is used in a wide range of systems, including mission-critical avionics systems, robotics, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems, nuclear fusion control systems and software defined radios. Available in C++, Java and Ada, ORBexpress has been recognized repeatedly as the smallest and fastest ORB in the industry by a variety of independent benchmark tests.
